Alternative to Kinect – Intel RealSense

I have 2 questions:

  1. Will the RealSense camera work in place of the Kinect device?
  2. Is it possible to have multiple cameras input devices – for a large stage area?

Hello Jason,

  1. I am not sure about RealSense. We haven’t gotten to testing it yet, but I doubt it will just work as Kinect node is based on Kinect SDK. I am assuming RealSense has a similar, but incompatible SDK.

  2. It should be possible for sure. If you are talking about Kinect though, then things get a bit trickier because of Kinect SDK and hardware (USB bandwidth) limitations. If you are talking about RealSense then I wouldn’t know yet.
